NIBR/EPFL/ETHZ - PostDoc in Computational Systems Biology (details in pdf)

Positions at ETHZ - Computational Systems Biology

Heinz Koeppl is seeking candidates for open postdoctoral and Ph.D. positions for his new group at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETHZ). The group will be part of the Automatic Control Laboratory and starts in fall 2010. Theme of the group is to apply formal methods to problems in computational systems biology. Directions include bounding solutions of uncertain reaction systems, for instance through "hybridization"; stochastic simulation algorithms of chemical kinetics and rule-based systems using the framework of stochastic hybrid automata. Modeling protein-assembly by local rules - graph-rewriting systems in general; spatial (Smoluchowski-type) modeling; development of a compositional theory for biomolecular circuits for the forward design of biomolecular devices from standardized genetic parts, i.e. for synthetic biology; parameter estimation from single-cell data; robustness analysis, identifiability analysis and parameter estimation.
The group will have a strong interdisciplinary character and will maintain close collaborations with experimental groups (in particular the Peter Lab, Institute of Biochemistry, ETHZ and the Novartis Institute for BioMedical Research, Basel).

Interested candidates with a strong mathematical and computational background, experienced or interested in biomolecular modeling are invited to apply. Their application package, including list of publications, CV with contact details of at least three references, should be sent (as a single PDF) to firstname.lastname@epfl.ch (with the obvious replacement).
